Psychokitty's Road Trip Planner
 by Renee Rosensteel

We've been doing a lot of road trips to fights and seminars. Training for a fight is hard enough without having to worry about all the details of traveling. There are some things that you can do that really make it easier on the road warrior. Plan ahead so you can keep your mind on the ring. If you have other travel tips, let us know. We will add them in.
About the Event

  • Find out where the event is, when it is and who to contact. (Get phone, fax and cell phone if possible)
  • Find out where you can contact someone the day before the event.
  • Do you have a copy of the rules? READ THEM.
  • Where will you stay? Is there a hotel list?
  • If you get there early consider camping out or staying in a youth hostel to save money. Do not do this the night before the fight. Cough up the bucks and get a hotel room where you can get a good night's sleep. You don't need to feel like you've already gone six rounds before you get out of bed.
  • Who will pay for your lodging? Often times the promoter will pick this up.
  • If the promoter is picking up the room will you have to share it with someone else? What time do you need to be there?
  • Who do you need to check in with?
  • Will there be a doctor on hand?
  • Will there be an ambulance there?
  • If you don't have your own medical insurance coverage, don't fight. If you get hurt at the fight, will the promoter's insurance pick up medical expenses?
  • Be sure that this is in writing somewhere. If this is a pro-event, Is there a contract?
  • How, when, how much and by whom will you get paid? Be sure that this is in writing somewhere.
