What is Martial Fitness Training?
This is a term used to describe martial arts inspired fitness training. It can be performed alone or in a classroom atmosphere. This type of workout concentrates on the fitness aspect of martial arts training instead of the skill aspect. Conditioning and skill are
basically two sides of the same coin when it comes to martial arts proficiency. This fitness approach however, makes the training quick paced, physical, aerobic, and a lot of fun. With this kind of workout, the focus is on enjoyment and you don’t have time to notice how hard you are really working out.
Although, make no mistake, the martial arts movements are still present and repetition is being imprinted into your muscle memory for whenever you may need basic use of your skill. The synchronized martial arts movements are then put to music to help you take your mind off the confusion of your mental effort while perfecting your skills. This allows for more of a free flow of motion for your body and relieves your perceived exertion rate. Your fitness workout is completely transformed into something better at this point, because you are burning calories, breaking a sweat and still practicing a skill, all while you are just having fun!
My Martial Fitness Training Method
I first set out to improve the biomechanical motion of the body. Then I blend that motion with some martial arts movements. These movements are controlled weight distribution, bone alignment, and a proper order of energy motion in the limbs that are initiated by the core or your torso. This makes people feel more solid and coordinated. It helps them reach their full power potential sooner. Then I use various types of footwork to increase their mobility and dynamic balance. This will improve their balance and evasive skills. It will help them during an escape, or leave space for them to launch a readied attack. I then cover things like timing and distance to improve the efficiency of their tactics and strategy. This approach produces a lot of functional skill in a short amount of time. In this way, I can closely relate all the fitness training practically to what might actually occur if they needed to defend themselves. I do all of this in an atmosphere of pumping music, total sweat and fun!
